Ugo Charron represents a new generation of perfumers who blend scientific precision with artistic innovation. Born in the wine region of Sancerre, France, he discovered his passion for fragrance at the age of 14 after reading Patrick Süskind’s Perfume. This early inspiration led him to pursue formal training at ITECH Lyon and the ICAP program in Montpellier.

What sets Charron apart is his synesthetic approach to perfumery. He translates colors, sounds, and textures into scent, creating immersive, multi-layered compositions that challenge traditional boundaries. His work reflects a unique balance between technical expertise and artistic sensitivity.

Since 2020, he has been working as a fine fragrance perfumer at MANE in New York City, where he was mentored for several years by renowned perfumer Christophe Laudamiel. This mentorship shaped his philosophy: never dilute strong ideas and always create from an emotional foundation.

Charron’s collaborative spirit extends beyond traditional perfumery. He has worked with brands such as Snif, creating unconventional fragrances like Dead Dinosaur, and contributed to Keap’s Full Circle Collection. One of his most distinctive projects is UMEMA, developed with Emmanuelle Dancourt, which explores the concept of scent through the lens of taste—specifically umami—demonstrating how fragrance can transcend conventional sensory boundaries.

Charron’s signature style is defined by minimalism with impact. He favors concise formulas in which each ingredient serves a precise purpose. His compositions often feature leathery, smoky, and saline, skin-like qualities that create a modern and intriguing effect.

A notable example is Fleur Danger for Thomas De Monaco. This fragrance blends metallic aldehydes with sweet raspberry, evolving into warm notes of rum and saffron before settling into a creamy sandalwood base. It showcases his ability to balance contrasting elements within a cohesive structure.

Beyond perfumery, Charron engages in cross-modal creative projects. He has developed scents inspired by visual art, created olfactory experiences for music festivals such as Cercle, and performs as a synthesizer player in the electronic duo Cosmic Gardens, combining live music with scent diffusion.

In 2022, Charron and Laudamiel received the Art and Olfaction Award for Saskia by Grandiflora, solidifying his reputation as a rising talent. His commitment to collaboration and knowledge-sharing reflects a shift toward a more open and innovative future in perfumery.
