Théo Belmas represents a new generation of perfumers who integrate diverse creative disciplines into their work. Born in southern France, he discovered his passion for perfumery at the age of 14, drawn by its unique blend of botany, chemistry, and artistic expression.

His educational path reflects this multidisciplinary mindset. After earning a degree in molecular chemistry in Toulouse, he completed the specialized ICAP master’s program in Montpellier, which combines botany, fragrance formulation, and chemistry. At the same time, he pursued contemporary dance at the Conservatoire de Montpellier—an experience that continues to shape his creative process.

Belmas began his career in 2015 as a junior perfumer at Concept Aromatique near Grasse, where he developed a deep familiarity with raw materials through intensive daily practice. In 2019, he joined Symrise in Germany as a technical perfumer, focusing on natural ingredients and reformulations. He later moved to Paris and, in 2023, to Dubai, where he now works as a perfumer at Symrise’s creative center.

His background in dance and music strongly influences his approach. Belmas believes that creative disciplines enrich one another, drawing inspiration from choreography, classical music, and contemporary art. This perspective enables him to craft fragrances that are both structurally refined and emotionally resonant.

Belmas gravitates toward amber and oriental compositions, valuing their strong presence and distinctive character. He also enjoys working with woody-spicy accords, often using bold materials such as Atlas cedarwood, cardamom absolute, and incense. His philosophy revolves around creating a “symbiosis between the intimate and the universal,” producing scents that feel personal yet widely relatable.

A key milestone in his career is his collaboration with the niche brand Pigmentarium. His creation Oratorio reflects his artistic vision, inspired by the contrast between urban energy and spiritual stillness, shaped by his travels between Prague and Paris.

The fragrance opens with bright yet slightly bitter notes of mandarin and neroli, evolves into a heart of incense, cedar, and jasmine, and settles into a balsamic base of opoponax and patchouli. This composition highlights his ability to balance light and dark elements within a single structure.

Belmas continues to innovate at Symrise, working on new natural materials and contemporary reformulations. With his blend of technical expertise and artistic sensitivity, he is emerging as a significant voice in modern perfumery, aiming to reinterpret traditional accords and bring fresh perspectives to established fragrance families.
