Sven Pritzkoleit’s journey into perfumery began in 1991 during a visit to Grasse while he was still a pharmacy student, inspired by Patrick Süskind’s novel Perfume. Although he completed his pharmaceutical studies in 1995 and went on to run a family pharmacy for 18 years, perfumery remained his true passion. Alongside his profession, he dedicated himself to studying raw materials, reading about fragrance composition, and teaching himself the art of perfumery.

His first serious composition, Pink Patchouli, was created in 2006. Early encouragement from industry professionals such as Dr. Philip Kraft (Givaudan) and Egon Oelkers (Symrise) motivated him to pursue his own path. After closing his pharmacy in 2012, he founded SP Parfums in 2016 and launched his Essential Collection, featuring ten fresh and woody compositions. In the same year, he published Duftspuren, a book that blends autobiography with guidance for aspiring perfumers.

Pritzkoleit’s creative style combines vintage perfumery with modern molecules in unexpected and innovative ways. His work is often inspired by childhood scent memories from his grandfather’s shaving soap to the distinctive smell of old pharmacies. His fragrances frequently feature rich woods, animalic accords, and unusual materials such as licorice and vetiver.

His composition Powder & Dust, created with Yana Lysenko, won the 2019 Art and Olfaction Award in the Artisan category. After the closure of SP Parfums in 2020, this award-winning fragrance was reimagined as Cockatiel for Zoologist—a powdery, elegant scent with notes of rhubarb and raspberry.

He also created Hyrax for Zoologist, a bold and animalic fragrance built around elemi, saffron, and pink pepper. It draws inspiration from hyraceum, a resinous material derived from the rock hyrax, giving the composition its distinctive depth and character.

Sven Pritzkoleit represents a unique, self-taught path in perfumery, demonstrating that passion, curiosity, and craftsmanship can lead to truly original and compelling fragrance creations.
