Spyros Drosopoulos was born in the Netherlands, raised in Greece, and educated in Germany—giving him a rich multicultural perspective that continues to shape his creative work. He earned a PhD in neuroscience with a focus on memory function and held a teaching position at the University of Amsterdam before fully dedicating himself to perfumery.

In 2009, his life took a decisive turn when he attended an introductory perfume course. Inspired by the first generation of independent niche perfumers—who proved that a formal education at a fragrance house was not the only path—Drosopoulos began an intensive period of self-study, experimenting with hundreds of raw materials. By 2012, he was working full-time as an independent perfumer, and in 2015 he founded his own brand, Baruti, named after the Greek word for “gunpowder.” His scientific background gives him a unique understanding of how scent interacts with memory and emotion.

Drosopoulos draws inspiration from music, art, and sensory contrasts. His creations for Baruti are known for their bold and unconventional character. His collaboration with Zoologist includes Olm, an unusual underground-inspired composition evoking dark cave waters through aquatic, mineral, and marine notes, as well as Macaque Fuji Apple Edition, a vibrant fragrance centered on crisp apple and juniper berries.

Beyond his own brand and collaborations, Drosopoulos is involved in forward-thinking projects such as Scentronix, a startup developing personalized fragrances using AI technology, and the Red List Project, which aims to preserve endangered plant species through the conservation of their scent profiles.

This fusion of scientific rigor, artistic vision, and environmental awareness makes Spyros Drosopoulos one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary niche perfumery.
