Born in 1987 in Paris, Sonia Constant discovered her passion for perfumery at the age of 16, when she first learned it could be a profession. Despite initial doubts from her family about pursuing a career in such a competitive field, her determination led her to ISIPCA in Versailles, one of the world’s most prestigious perfumery schools. There, she was mentored by influential figures such as Dominique Ropion and Francis Kurkdjian.

Her professional journey began with hands-on training at Givaudan, where she worked as a laboratory assistant for renowned perfumer Olivier Pescheux, who became a key mentor. After completing her studies, she continued her education at the Givaudan Perfumery School in Paris, where Christine Nagel further shaped her understanding of fragrance storytelling and composition.

In 2006, Constant officially joined Givaudan’s Fine Fragrance team in Paris. Her style is marked by remarkable versatility, ranging from transparent florals to rich oriental compositions. A distinctive rose accord became one of her early signatures. She draws inspiration from travel, memories, and even culinary experiences, often documenting impressions with a Leica camera and a notebook before translating them into scent.

Sonia Constant’s portfolio includes collaborations with major international brands such as Tom Ford, Narciso Rodriguez, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Mugler. Among her most notable creations are Ombre Leather and Noir Extrême for Tom Ford, the For Her Pure Musc line for Narciso Rodriguez, and La Belle for Jean Paul Gaultier. Her work consistently reflects her belief that perfumery is an art form, comparable to music or painting, capable of creating deep emotional connections.

In 2017, she co-founded Ella K Parfums with her husband Olivier Gagliardi, giving her greater creative freedom to express her personal vision. Her collaborations with Liquides Imaginaires highlight her experimental side, with creations such as Fortis, featuring earthy spices and smoky woods, Dom Rosa, blending sparkling champagne with Damask rose, and Fleuve Tendre, a refined spicy-animalic composition.

Constant often works with favorite materials such as Ambroxan, Cashmeran, orange blossom, and iris, complemented by notes like cardamom, vetiver, and sandalwood. Her creative process embraces experimentation, surprises, and even mistakes—what she likens to a “Calder mobile,” where different elements interact to create new ideas. Her synesthetic perception allows her to translate colors, shapes, and sounds into scent, making her one of the most innovative voices in contemporary perfumery.
