Nisrine Bouazzaoui Grillie’s passion for fragrance was shaped in the vibrant streets of Morocco. Surrounded by orange blossoms, leather from the medinas, and the rich spices of her family’s kitchen, she developed an early connection to scent. In her household, fragrance was a shared language—spent evenings describing perfumes and translating them into textures and emotions.

This sensory upbringing led her to France, where she studied chemistry and engineering to build a strong technical foundation. After discovering Givaudan, she began her journey there as an intern, eventually progressing from a junior evaluator role to being accepted into the company’s prestigious perfumery school.

During her intensive training, she mastered hundreds of raw materials and developed a deep understanding of complex compositions. Her creative philosophy reflects her multicultural identity: she sees perfume as storytelling, where each formula becomes a sentence shaped from within. She is particularly drawn to contrasts, combining opposing elements such as warmth and freshness to create unexpected and captivating fragrances.

Her signature style blends playful contrasts with technical precision. Rather than focusing on specific ingredients, she works with emotional associations, often using notes like bergamot, jasmine, sandalwood, vanilla, and tonka bean to craft expressive scent narratives.

Nisrine’s work is often collaborative, notably with perfumer Quentin Bisch. Together, they created Liquide Gold for Les Liquides Imaginaires, a fragrance that balances radiant freshness with warm depth. It opens with bright mandarin and saffron before revealing a creamy heart of vanilla and white musk—an example of her talent for unexpected yet harmonious compositions.

Her portfolio spans niche brands such as Ex Nihilo as well as major fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana and Thierry Mugler. Each creation reflects her belief that fragrance should be genderless and emotionally transformative. Her work on Pink Heart V.6 for Map of the Heart, created with Jacques Huclier, earned recognition as a finalist at the Art and Olfaction Awards.

What truly sets her apart is her multidisciplinary background. Her experience in theater, combined with her passion for music—she plays electric guitar and bass—influences her creative process. She approaches each project not only as a technical challenge but as an opportunity to evoke emotion and tell a story.

By incorporating both natural and synthetic materials and using advanced technologies such as headspace, she creates fragrances that capture entire atmospheres rather than isolated notes.
