Louise Turner is one of the most influential perfumers in contemporary British perfumery. Her earliest olfactory memories were shaped by the natural landscapes of Kent, where wildflowers such as honeysuckle and lilac left a lasting impression. Raised in southern England, she initially pursued a career in dentistry before a chance temporary role at Quest (now Givaudan) in the mid-1990s completely changed her path. This unexpected opportunity revealed her natural talent for fragrance creation.

In 1996, Turner joined Quest’s Fine Fragrance team in Paris, where she developed her craft through hands-on experience rather than formal training at a perfumery school. Her intuitive approach and refined sensibility led to her long-standing position at Givaudan, where she has worked since 2000. Over the course of her career, she has collaborated with major fashion houses including Carolina Herrera, Chloé, Dior, Tom Ford, and Mugler, as well as niche brands such as Maison Martin Margiela and Jo Malone London.

Turner’s signature style is defined by bright, joyful compositions, often centered around white florals such as orange blossom, jasmine, and tuberose. She has a unique ability to capture not only the scent of these flowers but also their texture and emotional resonance. Nature—particularly English gardens—remains her primary source of inspiration. Her creative philosophy follows the principle of “less is more,” striving for clarity, elegance, and refinement in every composition.

Turner’s portfolio includes some of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed fragrances of recent decades. Her creation Good Girl for Carolina Herrera (2016) became a global bestseller and received a “Breakout Star” award from The Fragrance Foundation in 2020. With Lost Cherry for Tom Ford (2018), she demonstrated her ability to create bold, distinctive fragrances that capture the public’s imagination.

Her work with niche brands highlights her artistic versatility. Lazy Sunday Morning for Maison Martin Margiela translates an abstract concept—the color white—into a clean, luminous olfactory experience. For Liquides Imaginaires, she created fragrances such as Blanche Bête and Âme du Cœur, further showcasing her range across different scent families.

Turner’s creative process draws on a wide range of influences, including travel, art, color, music, and cuisine—particularly Indian and Thai flavors. She views perfume as a medium for expressing emotion and inviting reflection on beauty.

In February 2025, Turner was appointed in-house perfumer for the historic French house Caron, marking a new chapter in her career. In this role, she is set to blend tradition with a contemporary vision. Her first fragrance for Caron, expected in autumn 2025, promises to honor the brand’s rich heritage while pushing creative boundaries.
