Kamila Lelakova represents a new generation of perfumers who combine classical training with multicultural influences. Growing up among the pine forests and mountains of Eastern Europe, her early connection to scent was deeply shaped by childhood memories—particularly the smell of chamomile blossoms in her mother’s bath. These impressions continue to inform her natural approach to fragrance creation.

Her journey into perfumery began almost by chance, quickly turning into a passion once she realized it was a profession. She started her career in customer evaluation at a small family-run fragrance company before pursuing formal training. Lelakova trained following the classical Roure method at Aromatic Flavours & Fragrances (AFF UK), where she was mentored by experienced perfumers from diverse backgrounds. Her intensive first year focused on studying natural and synthetic raw materials, followed by the creation of accords and full fragrance compositions.

Today, Lelakova is a Senior Perfumer at CPL Aromas UK and has created fragrances for renowned brands such as Boadicea the Victorious, Clive Christian, and The 7 Virtues. Her work on Defender for Boadicea the Victorious marked a historic milestone, as she became the brand’s first female perfumer—reflecting her growing influence in an industry where female voices are gaining increasing recognition.

Lelakova’s creative process is highly visual. She draws inspiration from mood boards, colors, shapes, and textures when selecting raw materials. Her specialization in Middle Eastern-style fragrances has led her to travel extensively throughout the region, immersing herself in its rich olfactory culture. This influence is evident in her appreciation for ingredients such as oud oil and especially sandalwood, which she values for its soft, creamy character.

Her portfolio demonstrates remarkable versatility. Crab Apple Blossom for Clive Christian showcases her ability to craft fresh, aquatic compositions, while Defender highlights her mastery of bold, complex scents. The fragrance opens with spicy ginger and bright grapefruit, unfolds into night-blooming jasmine and myrrh, and settles into a rich base of leather and resins.

Sustainability is another key pillar of her work. Lelakova is actively involved in developing biodegradable fragrance collections and embraces the challenge of working with a more limited palette of eco-friendly ingredients. For her, the environmental benefits far outweigh these constraints.
