Joschka Klee represents a new generation of independent perfumers reshaping the landscape of niche perfumery. The German autodidact founded Vapormundum after seven years of dedicated experimentation—starting in his parents’ basement and eventually building his own laboratory and creative studio.

His fascination with scent began in childhood, driven by a natural curiosity for everyday and natural aromas. In early adulthood, this interest deepened through exploring perfume blogs, collecting fragrances, and analyzing reviews. A chance encounter with a hobby perfumer ultimately transformed his passion into a serious creative pursuit.

Klee’s approach is defined by a multidisciplinary vision. He blends perfumery with other art forms such as music, painting, and poetry, often presenting these connections in exhibitions and creative projects. For him, truly compelling fragrances must tell a story and evoke emotional depth.

A defining element of Vapormundum is its concept of customizable accords. Additional “enhancers” allow wearers to modify and layer fragrances, turning them into active participants in the creative process—making each olfactory experience unique and personal.

Klee’s fragrance portfolio reflects his diverse inspirations and experimental mindset.

Electri, his debut creation, blends champagne notes with incense and is inspired by the atmosphere of dark techno clubs. The fragrance translates the energy of electronic music into a bold olfactory experience.

Aura, described as a “Dark Cherry & Oud Dream,” reveals a softer, more emotional dimension of his work. With notes of cherry, rose, oud, and incense, it captures the introspective and almost meditative moments of nightlife, delivering a noticeable yet balanced sillage.

With Deserta, Klee demonstrates his ability to translate landscapes into scent. Inspired by Colombia’s Tatacoa Desert, the composition reflects the interplay of heat and cooling—capturing the warmth absorbed during the day and slowly released at night.

Beyond his own brand, Klee collaborates with various figures in the fragrance world. Notably, he created Roots of Kente for the German niche brand twentysecondofmay, inspired by Ghanaian heritage.

His collaborative mindset and openness to working with digital creators and influencers highlight his understanding of modern fragrance culture and community-building in the digital age.
