Jordi Fernández represents a distinctive voice in contemporary perfumery. Unlike many of his peers, his path was not shaped by formal academic training, but by passion, curiosity, and self-driven mastery. Growing up in Catalonia, Spain, he was deeply influenced by the rich olfactory atmosphere of religious processions—particularly the mystical scent of incense. These early impressions laid the foundation for his later expertise in resinous and sacred materials.

As a self-taught perfumer, Fernández began his career at Eurofragance, a family-owned company in Barcelona, where his combination of analytical precision and creative instinct quickly stood out. A pivotal turning point came through his immersion in Middle Eastern fragrance culture, spending years in the region to understand its rich olfactory traditions.

A defining moment occurred during a visit to a Dubai souk, where he was surrounded by the dense, evocative blend of oud, spices, and smoke—an experience that shaped his future specialization.

In 2010, Fernández joined Givaudan as a Senior Perfumer and now divides his time between Barcelona and Dubai. This dual perspective allows him to seamlessly bridge Western and Eastern perfumery traditions. His creative philosophy emphasizes collaboration and knowledge sharing, particularly with emerging brands, viewing exchange as an essential part of creation. As a member of the Spanish Academy of Perfumery, he continues to elevate the global presence of Spanish fragrance artistry.

Fernández has earned the title “Master of Oud” through his deep understanding of this complex material. He appreciates its dual nature—soft, balsamic, and velvety on one hand, yet rich, animalic, and powerful on the other.

This expertise is reflected in creations such as Infusion Velours and Ciel d’Orage for Ojar, where he masterfully blends traditional Middle Eastern elements with contemporary refinement.

His versatility extends far beyond oud. With Genetic Bliss for 27 87, he showcases his innovation in molecular perfumery. Built around just five key molecules—including Akigalawood and Javanol—the fragrance adapts to individual skin chemistry, representing a bold fusion of science and artistry.

Patchouli is another signature material in his palette, often used as a structural anchor to add richness and depth. His work spans from minimalist compositions to opulent creations, always aiming to deliver immersive and emotionally resonant experiences.

Among his most notable works is Montblanc Explorer, co-created with Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux, as well as Lucius for Fragrance Du Bois—his first fragrance for the brand specifically designed with a masculine focus.

Fernández draws inspiration from travel, cultural encounters, and the beauty of Mediterranean landscapes. He believes that fragrance should reflect personality and mood—powerful, captivating, and capable of evoking strong emotional responses. At the same time, he embraces a conscious approach to perfumery, valuing sustainability and the responsible use of natural resources.
