Jacques Flori’s path to becoming one of France’s most respected perfumers began in an unconventional way. Initially drawn to medicine in his youth, he chose to leave his studies behind to pursue his passion for sailing, eventually becoming president of the Yacht Club in Cannes. This strong connection to the sea would later influence his fragrance creations, where maritime freshness and natural elements often play a central role.

His entry into perfumery came through a chance encounter with Jean Mober, the owner of the renowned fragrance house Robertet. Under Mober’s mentorship, Flori discovered his true vocation and quickly developed his skills. In 1973, he joined Robertet as an assistant perfumer and steadily progressed to the position of senior perfumer, a role he values particularly for the creative freedom the house provides.

His artistic signature is deeply rooted in his connection to nature. The sea, the mountains, and his passion for horses all find their way into his compositions, giving his fragrances a distinct sense of natural depth. He is especially known for his mastery of incense compositions, where he skillfully balances sacred, mystical elements with wearable elegance.

Jacques Flori’s portfolio includes collaborations with renowned niche houses such as Xerjoff, Jovoy Paris, Amouage, and Parfums de Marly. His expertise with incense is particularly evident in La Liturgie Des Heures, a composition that translates childhood memories of monastery incense into a refined blend of cypress, incense, and myrrh.

However, his versatility extends far beyond sacred themes. With Psychedelique, he created a patchouli composition inspired by the 1970s, capturing the spirit of the Woodstock era. For Xerjoff’s Casamorati line, he developed Bouquet Ideale, a spicy oriental fragrance featuring cinnamon, guaiac wood, and tobacco flowers, celebrating the traditions of Italian perfumery.

His technical mastery is also reflected in his ability to work across different olfactory families. Nio highlights his expertise in Mediterranean citrus compositions, while Richwood showcases his talent for creating rich woody accords combined with rose and patchouli. Each of his creations follows the same principle: transforming natural inspiration into precise, emotionally engaging fragrances.

His influence extends beyond his own creations. As a mentor at Robertet, he shares his knowledge and experience with younger perfumers, contributing to the development of the next generation.
