Born in Germany to an Iranian father and a German mother, his early years in Isfahan—surrounded by blooming rose fields—sparked a lifelong passion for scent. This multicultural background continues to define his distinctive creative voice.

After returning to Germany, he began his career at Dragoco, where he spent over a decade mastering the technical foundations of fragrance creation. His mentorship under senior perfumer Robert Calkin played a key role in shaping both his technical expertise and his ability to translate emotions into scent.

In 1995, he joined Firmenich, where he has since built a long-standing career as a Principal Perfumer. His professional journey took him from Germany to Brazil, then to Geneva, and eventually to Dubai. These global experiences enriched his understanding of diverse scent cultures and allowed him to develop a truly international perspective.

His philosophy emphasizes collaboration and openness, combined with a bold creative approach. He is particularly known for his technique of “overdosing” select ingredients to create fragrances with strong projection and lasting impact. His work successfully blends Eastern richness with Western structure, appealing to a global audience.

Merati-Kashani’s portfolio includes numerous successful creations for both niche and designer brands. His work for Parfums de Marly—such as Layton, Pegasus, and Percival—has become especially influential. With Pegasus, he reinterpreted traditional fragrance ideas and challenged conventional gender boundaries.

His collaboration with Goldfield & Banks further demonstrates his versatility. Ingenious Ginger delivers a vibrant, spicy freshness, while Silky Woods Elixir, co-created with Olivier Cresp, offers a deeper, smoky sophistication.

Through his own brand, Fabbrica Della Musa—founded with his wife—he explores more personal and artistic expressions. Fragrances like Oud Tuareg, Ile Bourbon, and Cristallo Bianco highlight his ability to create both rich oriental compositions and luminous, accessible scents.
