Geza Schön is considered one of the most influential and innovative voices in modern perfumery, having significantly shaped the industry through his work with synthetic aroma molecules. Born in Kassel, Germany, his passion for fragrance emerged at an early age: at thirteen, he was already collecting men’s fragrance samples, and by sixteen, he was able to identify hundreds of perfumes blind. This exceptional olfactory talent led him to study chemistry at the University of Heidelberg before beginning his formal perfumery training in 1992 at Haarmann & Riemer, now known as Symrise.

His artistic vision is defined by a clear sense of minimalism and a deliberate focus on individual ingredients, particularly synthetic molecules that are often overlooked in traditional perfumery. Schön challenges established conventions by reducing complexity to reveal the pure effect of single components. This approach reached its most consistent expression with the founding of Escentric Molecules in 2006, where he presented Iso E Super both as a standalone fragrance in Molecule 01 and as a central element in more complex compositions.

As an independent perfumer based in Berlin, Schön has collaborated with houses such as Ormonde Jayne and Clive Christian. His partnership with Linda Pilkington of Ormonde Jayne proved especially significant, resulting in creations such as Ormonde Man and Ormonde Woman, which demonstrate his ability to balance natural and synthetic materials in perfect harmony.

Schön’s portfolio ranges from opulent compositions such as X for Men and 1872 for Men for Clive Christian to the refined elegance of the Signature Collection by Ormonde Jayne. His work for Ormonde Jayne highlights his versatility, from the warm depth of Ambre Royal to the green clarity of Montabaco Intensivo and the complex structure of Nawab of Oudh Intensivo.

Each of his creations is characterized by a precise balance in which no single note dominates. His fragrances follow the principle of “concordia discors,” the harmonious union of seemingly opposing elements. This is evident in compositions such as Tolu, where traditional oriental richness meets contemporary transparency, and Champaca, which combines exotic florals with unexpected rice notes.

Schön’s influence extends far beyond individual fragrances. He has played a key role in redefining the perception of synthetic materials within perfumery, elevating their status and demonstrating their essential aesthetic value.
