Enzo Galardi’s journey into perfumery did not begin in a laboratory, but in his grandfather’s workshop in Florence. Born in 1954, he grew up surrounded by the world of fragrance, learning to recognize individual notes and studying traditional techniques under the guidance of his grandfather, Guido Galardi. This early immersion laid the foundation for his future career as one of Italy’s most respected niche perfumers.
In the 1920s, Guido Galardi had experimented with distillation techniques and created his own perfume formulas, with the ambition of opening a boutique in Florence. Although his perfumery, Bottega Italiana Spigo, closed in 1925, the passion for fragrance lived on through Enzo. After joining the family business in 1985, he spent decades refining his craft before founding Bois 1920 in 2005. The brand pays tribute to his grandfather’s legacy by reinterpreting original formulas from the 1920s for a contemporary audience.
Galardi’s creative philosophy is centered on bridging the past and the present. He works with high-quality raw materials and pays close attention to detail, creating fragrances he describes as “exclusive works of art with a distinctive character.” This approach is reflected in compositions such as Classic 1920, where traditional Italian perfumery is combined with a modern sensibility, blending spicy notes with floral accords and subtle fruity nuances.
