Douglas Morel represents a new generation of French perfumers bringing fresh perspectives to niche fragrance creation. Growing up in northern France, he initially developed a strong passion for cooking. His fascination with flavors, spices, and ingredients laid the foundation for his approach to perfumery, where he treats fragrance composition much like crafting a carefully balanced recipe.

A defining moment came during childhood travels, particularly through the markets of Damascus. The rich aromas of cinnamon, cumin, and freshly ground cardamom left a lasting impression. Additional influences—such as cedarwood in Marrakech and orange blossom in Florence—further shaped his understanding of how scent can evoke emotion and transport the mind.

After studying at ISIPCA, Morel refined his skills through experiences at leading fragrance houses including Takasago, Robertet, and Mane. His mentorship under Francis Kurkdjian was especially influential, teaching him how to create perfectly balanced compositions using high-quality materials. This combination of technical precision and artistic intuition continues to define his work today.

Morel’s portfolio reflects both versatility and a refined sense of balance. For Moresque, he created fragrances such as Byron, a sophisticated spicy-woody composition, and Scarlet Rouge, which explores the intersection of floral and gourmand elements.

In collaboration with Cristian Calabrò for Reinvented, he contributed to creations like Eureka, blending coffee and spices in innovative ways, and Illusion, which balances sweetness with depth. These works highlight his ability to merge emotional storytelling with technical structure.

With Bonbon Pop for The House of Oud, he demonstrates his skill in creating modern gourmand fragrances that are both accessible and complex. His work often showcases a thoughtful interplay between natural and synthetic materials, allowing him to recreate challenging notes—such as fresh fruits—while maintaining authenticity.

Now based in Amsterdam, Morel continues to push boundaries in niche perfumery, drawing inspiration from art, cinema, and his extensive travels. His approach blends curiosity with craftsmanship, resulting in fragrances that are both emotionally engaging and technically refined.
