Domitille Michalon Bertier is one of the defining figures in modern perfumery. Her passion for fragrance began at a young age during her time in Vanuatu, where she was surrounded by the rich scents of tropical spices, flowers, and woods. These early sensory experiences left a lasting impression and played a key role in shaping her future path.
Originally interested in architecture, she later discovered perfumery as her true calling. After studying organic chemistry, she trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and began her career at IFF, where she has remained ever since. Over the years, she has risen to the position of Vice President Perfumer, reflecting both her talent and dedication.
Her style is dynamic and versatile, effortlessly spanning different fragrance families—from gourmand to floral to woody compositions. A defining element of her work is her deep appreciation for natural ingredients, which she continuously explores and integrates into her creations. She has built a personal library of accords and scents, allowing her to translate memories and abstract ideas into tangible fragrances.
She draws inspiration from many aspects of life, including cooking, art, literature, and music—particularly jazz and noir novels—as well as time spent in nature. These influences play a central role in her creative process.
