Cécile Zarokian’s journey into perfumery began with a decisive shift in direction. Initially studying medicine and biochemistry with the goal of becoming a pediatrician, she discovered her true passion upon learning about ISIPCA, the renowned perfumery school in Versailles. This turning point led her to pursue fragrance creation, followed by four years of training at Robertet under the guidance of Michel Almairac and Jacques Flori.

During this formative period, she created Amouage Epic Woman in 2009—an early achievement that immediately set her apart. Building on this success, Zarokian made a bold move in 2011 by founding her own company in Paris, becoming an independent perfumer. This decision gave her full creative autonomy and allowed her to collaborate directly with brands, competing with established fragrance houses on her own terms.

Her Armenian heritage and intuitive approach influence her distinctive style, which focuses on authenticity and emotional depth. For Zarokian, perfumery is a means of storytelling—translating ideas, images, and moods into olfactory expressions. Her ability to conceptualize fragrances mentally and bring them to life with precision has made her a respected and sought-after creator.

Zarokian’s work has become a cornerstone of niche perfumery. Her collaboration with Nishane resulted in Ani, a globally acclaimed vanilla composition that later inspired Ani X. With Jovoy Paris, she created standout fragrances such as Private Label, known for its smoky, leathery character, and Remember Me, inspired by the comforting warmth of chai.

Her partnership with Parfums MDCI produced elegant compositions like Cio Cio San, inspired by Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and Les Indes Galantes, rich in spices and complexity. For Electimuss, she developed Vanilla Edesia, a multifaceted interpretation of vanilla that explores both luminous and darker aspects of the note.

Her creations for Aura Perfume, including the incense-driven A.E.O.M. and the refined citrus-vanilla blend Sublime, further highlight her versatility. In 2018, she was named “Perfumer of the Year” by Olfactorama, and in 2023 she received a Fragrance Foundation Award USA for Amouage Opus XIV Royal Tobacco.

Today, leading a team in her Paris laboratory, Zarokian continues to expand her influence through collaborations, consultancy, and international masterclasses. Her work consistently bridges artistic expression and commercial success, solidifying her reputation as one of the most important independent perfumers of her generation.
