Caroline Sabas represents a seamless blend of classic French perfumery heritage and a modern, international perspective. Born in Cannes and raised in Grasse—the birthplace of perfumery—she grew up surrounded by the iconic scents of jasmine, rose, mimosa, and honeysuckle. With a father who worked as a perfumer, fragrance was an integral part of her upbringing, shaping her sensory awareness from an early age.

She refined her skills at ISIPCA in Versailles and later gained hands-on experience through an apprenticeship at Chanel in Paris. In 1997, she moved to New York to join Fragrance Resources, and in 2003 she became part of Givaudan, where she now holds the position of Senior Perfumer.

Sabas defines herself as an intuitive and emotionally driven creator, guided more by feeling than rigid formulas. This mindset has allowed her to build a highly versatile career, working across diverse segments—from mass-market fragrances to luxury, celebrity, and niche creations. Rather than adhering to a single style, she continuously reinvents herself, moving effortlessly between classic and contemporary, subtle and bold compositions.

Her inspiration comes from a wide range of sources, including music, cuisine, nature, color, and emotion. Like an artist or chef, she transforms raw materials into unique olfactory compositions that evoke memories and create immersive sensory experiences.

One of her most notable fragrances, You or Someone Like You for Etat Libre d’Orange, created in collaboration with Chandler Burr, captures the essence of Los Angeles through a fresh blend of mint, green notes, and rose. The fragrance illustrates her talent for translating abstract ideas into vivid scent stories.

Her work for Fragrance Du Bois, particularly Oud Orange Intense, highlights her expertise in oriental compositions. Here, she balances exotic fruits and coconut with rich oud and bourbon vanilla, creating a refined yet approachable gourmand fragrance.

Sabas has also achieved major success in the celebrity fragrance sector, developing bestselling scents for icons such as Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez. Her fragrance Golden Nectar for Nest New York received “Fragrance of the Year” at The Fragrance Foundation Awards in 2023, reinforcing her relevance in today’s industry.

Her preferred ingredients include vetiver, ambrettolide musk, salicylates, and amber—materials she describes as sensual, mysterious, and deeply expressive. These elements form subtle connections across her diverse body of work.

Today, Sabas continues to innovate at Givaudan while working across global hubs such as New York, Paris, and São Paulo, staying closely connected to international trends and contributing to the evolution of contemporary perfumery.
