Bertrand Duchaufour is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary niche perfumery. Born in Nancy, France, his journey into fragrance began at the age of 16, when exposure to Chanel No. 19 and a television program on perfumery sparked a deep fascination with scent. This experience led him to shift his focus from biochemistry and genetics toward the creative world of fragrance.

He began his formal training in 1985 at Lautier Florasynth in Grasse, learning alongside renowned perfumers such as Jean-Claude Ellena, Dominique Ropion, and Michel Almairac. After spending a decade at Créations Aromatiques (later Symrise), Duchaufour chose independence in 2008, allowing him full creative freedom. This step marked a turning point in his career, leading to his role as Perfumer in Residence at L’Artisan Parfumeur and eventually to founding his own brand, L’Entropiste.

For Comme des Garçons, he developed the renowned Avignon and Kyoto, showcasing his ability to transform minimalist compositions into rich, complex experiences.

His portfolio also includes bold and expressive works such as Corpus Equus, an intense animalic fragrance built around leather and smoke, and Or du Sérail, a gourmand composition blending fruits, tobacco, and warmth. For Parfums MDCI, creations like Chypre Palatin and La Belle Hélène demonstrate his skill in reinterpreting classical structures with modern sophistication.
