Antoine Lie, born in Strasbourg in 1966, discovered his passion for perfumery at an early age, inspired by the classic fragrances worn by his mother. This fascination led him to study at the prestigious Roure Perfumery School in Grasse. Under the mentorship of influential figures such as Jean Carles and Jean Guichard, he began his professional journey in 1988, later working with major fragrance houses including Givaudan, IFF, and Takasago. In 2018, he founded his independent studio, ALOE, marking a new chapter in his creative freedom.
Lie describes himself as an “abstract perfumer,” rejecting both strict minimalism and literal realism. Instead, he focuses on creating fragrances that transport emotions and shape space—what he calls “living sculptures.” Like a sculptor, he builds form, texture, and projection, crafting scents that evolve dynamically rather than simply represent reality. This philosophy has enabled him to create both widely successful fragrances such as Armani Code and daring, avant-garde compositions.
His collaboration with Etat Libre d’Orange perfectly illustrates his bold creative spirit. Sécrétions Magnifiques challenged the fragrance world with its provocative, bodily-inspired accords, while Rien revealed his mastery of industrial, leather-driven compositions. These works cement his reputation as a perfumer unafraid to explore the boundaries of scent.
