Olivier Cresp, born in 1955 in Grasse, comes from a long lineage deeply rooted in perfumery. His family cultivated roses and jasmine for generations and traded natural raw materials as far back as the Middle Ages. Surrounded by fresh flowers from an early age, he developed an exceptional olfactory memory that would later shape modern perfumery.
He created his first fragrance at just eight years old, foreshadowing a groundbreaking career. After studying perfume production in the United States during the 1970s, he began his professional journey in 1975. In his early years, he focused on mastering the production of concretes and absolutes, studying new molecules, and training under renowned perfumers such as Jean-Louis Sieuzac and Jean-Claude Ellena.
Cresp’s creative philosophy is defined by clarity and minimalism. He favors concise formulas with 20 to 40 ingredients, built around strong, well-defined concepts. Drawing inspiration from nature and visual impressions, he believes that a single powerful idea can lead to truly exceptional creations.
After joining Firmenich in 1992 and being named Master Perfumer in 2006, he became a key figure in the industry. In 2017, he co-founded the niche brand Akro with his daughter Anaïs, focusing on themes of addiction, pleasure, and human emotion.
