Jeanne-Marie Faugier’s journey into perfumery began with a deep passion for science and chemistry in her hometown of Paris. This scientific foundation became essential when she joined the prestigious Roure perfumery school (now part of Givaudan) in 1986. Her early fascination with molecular structures evolved into a refined understanding of how fragrance ingredients interact to create emotional experiences.

Following her training, Faugier spent 13 formative years at Givaudan, working across key locations including Grasse, Geneva, and Paris. This international exposure provided her with a profound understanding of both traditional French perfumery techniques and modern fragrance development. She specialized in creating new molecules for fine fragrances and personal care, building a comprehensive expertise across the full spectrum of perfumery.

Her career led her through renowned companies such as Colgate-Palmolive, TechnicoFlor, and Symrise before joining Firmenich in 2018 as a senior perfumer. There, she collaborates closely with the Paris perfumery team on major brand projects and manages complex reformulations in fine fragrance. These diverse experiences have shaped her refined and versatile creative approach.

Faugier’s artistic philosophy is rooted in the desire to bring joy and well-being through carefully crafted compositions. She sees herself as a true artisan, approaching each creation with precision, dedication, and passion. Her fragrances often draw inspiration from nature, art, and personal memories—designed to tell stories and evoke lasting emotions.

Her most celebrated creation, Vêpres Siciliennes for Parfums MDCI, perfectly illustrates her ability to capture the essence of place and emotion. Released in 2009, the fragrance opens with radiant citrus notes of mandarin, grapefruit, and orange, enhanced by delicate floral touches of lily of the valley and magnolia.

The heart unfolds into a rich floral bouquet of orange blossom, heliotrope, jasmine, and tuberose, before settling into a warm base of vanilla, peach, and osmanthus.

The creation process behind Vêpres Siciliennes reflects Faugier’s patience and pursuit of perfection. Claude Marchal of Parfums MDCI praised her “endless grace and patience,” noting that the collaboration spanned several months to achieve the perfect balance. The result is a fragrance that seamlessly blends classical craftsmanship with contemporary elegance.

Her portfolio extends beyond niche houses to include major brands such as Lancôme, Yves Rocher, and L’Occitane en Provence. Notable creations include Ô d’Azur for Lancôme, capturing the freshness of Mediterranean coastlines, and Fleurs de Cerisier for L’Occitane, showcasing her delicate interpretation of floral compositions.

For Frapin, she created several fragrances including Caravelle Épicée and the more recent Oud Forever, highlighting her versatility across different olfactory families.

Beyond her own creations, Faugier actively mentors young perfumers. Her ability to clearly explain ingredients and their applications has inspired the next generation of fragrance creators.
