Cristian Calabrò’s journey to becoming one of Italy’s most respected independent perfumers is rooted in a strong background in chemistry and analytical techniques. He began his career in fragrance in 2003 at Cerizza SpA, working as a “massista” in the research and development laboratory. There, he learned the fundamentals of weighing and composing raw materials. Under the mentorship of master perfumer Maurizio Cerizza, he developed a deep appreciation for rare and precious ingredients while refining his technical skills and olfactory memory.

This early experience shaped his professional identity, combining scientific precision with a strong drive for exploration and experimentation. After gaining further experience at GRC Parfum SpA, he eventually found his creative home at CFF (Creative Flavours & Fragrances SpA). There, a collaboration with Andrea Casotti opened new doors for innovative olfactory expression.

Calabrò’s philosophy centers on transforming everyday impressions and personal passions into emotionally resonant fragrances. He draws inspiration from various art forms, including painting, music, cinema, and literature. His approach reflects the artistic principles of harmony, intensity, and continuity, which are evident in creations such as Cannabis Salata and 17 Rosso. These works highlight his ability to reinterpret traditional perfumery structures while crafting complex and emotionally engaging compositions.

Calabrò’s extensive portfolio demonstrates remarkable versatility, with collaborations across niche brands such as The House of Oud, Roberto Ugolini, Bois 1920, and Reinvented. His work with Andrea Casotti has produced standout fragrances like Almond Harmony and Dates Delight, showcasing his expertise in gourmand compositions.

His innovative spirit is evident in unexpected combinations, such as the blend of lemon, ylang-ylang, banana, and peanut in L’Explicite for THoO. He also explores “edible” fragrance concepts, starting from familiar food notes and transforming them into deeper olfactory and emotional experiences.

Collections like the Psyche Collection for Reinvented further demonstrate his ability to create sophisticated oriental-spicy fragrances such as Eureka and Illusion, each telling a unique olfactory story. His collaborations with Roberto Ugolini, including 4 Rosso and Marzocco, capture the essence of Italian craftsmanship in scent form.
